UC Santa Barbara student found dead on beach

A 20-year-old female University of California Santa Barbara student was declared dead after being found on the beach Sunday morning, officials said.

The woman was identified as Sierra Markee-Winkler of Eureka, who was living in Isla Vista near the university campus. Additional details surrounding the death weren’t immediately available, but Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Kelly Hoover said the agency is investigating.

“There is nothing at this point to indicate foul play,” she said. “But we are early in our investigation and have not ruled out anything yet.”
