Teenage boy killed, three other people injured in freeway crash
A 13-year-old boy was killed and three other people were injured when their vehicle veered out of control on the Antelope Valley Freeway and crashed into an embankment, authorities said.
The accident occurred about 8:15 p.m. Saturday in the northbound lanes of the 14 Freeway, just south of Avenue O, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Peter Ramirez IV, 28, of Lancaster, was driving the 2007 Saturn ION when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with the dirt embankment, according to the CHP. The vehicle came to rest on its left side, pointing south.
Ramirez, 21-year-old Matthew Tucker, a 13-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl were transported to a local hospital. The unidentified teenager was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in the cause of the collision and Ramirez was taken into custody, according to the CHP.
The investigation of the crash is continuing.
