Earthquake: 3.9 quake strikes in southern San Diego County

A shallow magnitude 3.9 earthquake was reported Saturday morning in southern San Diego County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 7:09 a.m. Pacific time at a depth of 3.1 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 16 miles from Pine Valley, 29 miles from Alpine and 30 miles from Tecate, Mexico.

In the last 10 days, there have been two earthquakes magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
