A worker was found dead early Saturday morning at a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power plant in Long Beach.

The cause of death is under investigation, and the worker’s name is being withheld pending notification of family members, the department said in a prepared statement.

The Haynes Generating Station is a steam-generating plant that is being partially rebuilt to eliminate the use of ocean water, according to the department. The worker was discovered about 1:30 a.m. in an area of the plant that was not under construction.

“This is a tragic loss and tragedy for our employee’s family and our entire LADWP family,” said Aram Benyamin, a senior assistant general manager. “Our hearts go out to the family, friends and coworkers of our employee.”
