Cause of death still unclear for DWP worker found dead

The autopsy has been completed for a man found dead at a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power plant, but no cause of death has been determined, a coroner’s office official said Tuesday.

The results of the autopsy are pending a toxicology screen, which could take months.

The body of Vincent Martinez, 60, of Downey was found in the plant’s Haynes Generating Station at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday after his family reported him missing the previous night, said LADWP spokesman Joe Ramallo.

Martinez was a landscaper with LADWP who would have celebrated his 29th anniversary with the department in June, Ramallo said. He was on duty Friday afternoon before he was reported missing.

“This is a tragic loss and tragedy for our employee’s family and our entire LADWP family,” said Aram Benyamin, a senior assistant general manager. “Our hearts go out to the family, friends and co-workers of our employee.”

A cause of death has yet to be determined. Ramallo said Martinez’s death did not appear to be related to construction going on at the plant.
