Pomona police evacuated a middle school Monday after someone phoned in a bomb threat.

The threat to Palomares Academy in the 2200 block of Orange Grove Drive was reported around 9:15 a.m. but did not detail any specifics, said Pomona police Lt. Eddie Vazquez. He said the caller made a broad threat and quickly hung up.

“We are evacuating as a precaution,” Vazquez said. “We have to take everything seriously.”

Vazquez said a police bomb squad would search the campus for any possible device. It was not immediately clear when or if classes might resume.

Palomares Academy, with more than 425 students, said on its website and on its phone-answering message that students will not be released to parents at the Palomares campus.

Instead, school officials said that parents wishing to pick up their children can go to Pomona High School. Students will only be released to adults who are on their emergency contact card and can show photo ID, officials said.
