A fire broke out at a Van Nuys apartment building Sunday, forcing four people to flee and causing about $105,000 in damage, officials said.

Los Angeles Fire Department crews knocked down the flames little more than 20 minutes after getting the 9:22 a.m call, said department spokesman Erik Scott. No one was reported injured.

A smoke alarm allowed two adults and two children to escape the blaze on the second floor of the apartment building at 15740 W. Sherman Way, Scott said. They called 911, he said.
