L.A. teacher gets 2 years in prison for sexually abusing students
A Los Angeles charter school teacher was sentenced Thursday to two years in prison after pleading no contest to two counts of committing lewd acts on a child, the district attorney’s office said.
Juan Ramon Cardoza, 56, of Downey admitted in court last year to abusing four female students at New Designs Charter School between January 2010 and March 2013.
The alleged abuse involved a 13-year-old and three 14-year-old girls, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
At Cardoza’s sentencing Thursday in Compton, Judge Eleanor Hunter ordered Cardoza to register as a sex offender for life, the statement said.
Cardoza is scheduled to return to court in April for a restitution hearing.
