Letters: Propping up North Korea
Re “N. Korea exports workers to China for cash,” July 1
Do Americans realize that their underwear may have been produced by North Koreans making less than $1.50 a day, or that the North Korean government is being subsidized through the sale of these products?
Jobs could be created in this country if all products sold here had to be produced using our labor standards. Why should we demand a federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour for our workers and accept products produced elsewhere for 20 cents an hour?
When this is changed, jobs will return to the United States.
Why isn’t such a simple solution legislated by Congress? It’s because “job creators” don’t approve of labor-friendly government regulations.
