Letters: The Obamacare blame game
Re “Obama’s fumble disappoints,” Column, Dec. 3
Sandy Banks’ column offers some much-needed perspective on the healthcare issue in America.
President Obama’s Affordable Care Act might not be perfect, but it is a step in the right direction. If the Republican Party has a better plan to bring the United States up to speed with Canada, France and a host of other countries that have figured out that people should be treated differently than profit-point widgets, I would love to see it.
One point I disagree on is her referring to Obama as having “lied to us” about people being able to keep the existing policies they like.
Obama erred in using the subjective term “like” in conjunction with healthcare policies that are being discontinued because they aren’t worth the paper they are printed on. The sad truth is that too many Americans are eager to say they “like” a plan that offers next-to-no coverage if it embarrasses the president.

Hang on a darn minute, please. I too am disappointed in Obama’s surprising lack of performance in the rollout of the healthcare exchange. I too have concerns that the consequences may be far-reaching and detrimental to the success of this desperately needed program.
Yet all this dire doom-and-gloom evidenced by so many in the media — basically calling the president a liar, when it seems to me that he was greatly misinformed and much too eager to accept diagnoses and results from staff and researchers alike — serves no useful purpose.
This vital game of healthcare reform is only in its first quarter.
