Readers React: Elliot Rodger’s anti-Asian animus

To the editor: The article is off-base. Elliot Rodger’s psychotic videos and manifesto document not only a hatred of his own half-Asian ethnicity and a desire to be Caucasian but his abhorrence of and disregard for “inferior” Asian men. (“UCSB friends were victims of circumstance,” June 21)

This hatred, combined with a century of mass media’s dehumanizing and desexualizing of Asian males, created Rodger’s first target profile. George Chen, James Hong and David Wang were not only Rodger’s roommates and first victims, they were Chinese American men.
