To the editor: A huge thanks to David Blankenhorn for reminding us that our country has survived even more divisive times than those in which we are now immersed.

I’m not sure that we can find a present-day Abraham Lincoln, but I do feel like a depressive “bad news on your doorstep, I couldn’t take one more step” cloud has been lifted.

To the editor: Reading Blankenhorn’s piece, I am reminded of my favorite Lincoln aphorism: “We should be too big to take offense and too noble to give it.”

I remind myself too infrequently of how easy it is to stray from such a simple yet powerful sentiment.
