For televised meetings, a one-day delay

Residents wanting to watch some city meetings live on their computers or televisions this month have had to wait until the following day because Laguna Beach staff is replacing audio/visual equipment inside City Council chambers.

Crews are installing new microphones and speakers and will attach two large-screen monitors to a wall behind the dais. View Restoration Committee and Planning Commission meetings on Jan. 4 and 6, respectively, were not broadcast live on the city’s cable channel 852 or the website lagunabeachcity.net.

Design Review Board and Planning Commission meetings on Jan. 14 and 20, respectively, will follow the same format.

City Council meetings last Tuesday and Jan. 26 were scheduled to stream live as usual. Gavin Curran, the city’s IT director, said Jan. 8 that Cox Communications crews will decide the best way to handle the task, possibly placing a camera on a tripod to record the meeting.

“We try to televise all the meetings, but without the assistance of the audio visual system, it is logistically very challenging,” Curran said in a follow-up email. “Therefore, staff focused its efforts on the City Council meetings. Those meetings are the priority.”

The city expects to finish the work by Jan. 22, according to a news release.
