Meeting will focus on methods to keep community safe from coyotes
The Laguna Beach Police Department’s animal services division will hold a community meeting titled “Living with Wildlife” on Saturday at the Laguna Beach Community & Susi Q Center.
Residents will learn ways to protect themselves and their pets from attacks by coyotes and other wildlife. Several residents have told City Council members at meetings that they are seeing more coyotes in their neighborhoods and that some of the animals are entering people’s yards and snatching small dogs.
The topic reached a tipping point in January, when residents at a council meeting spoke both for and against the trapping of coyotes.
The city had set traps and caught several of the animals but by the end of the month had removed all traps after reports of coyote activity decreased. But the council could consider trapping again if reports spike.
Saturday’s meeting begins at 10 a.m. The community center is at 380 Third. St.
