The cows come home to Top of the World school
Top of the World Elementary School students this week got a crash course in agriculture and its link to the food supply with the help of four-legged visitors.
The Dairy Council of California, as part of its mobile dairy classroom project, brought live cows to campus for two 45-minute interactive assemblies.
Students learned about a cow’s anatomy, how milk goes from cow to refrigerator and the technology used in processing milk.
Instructors also discussed the nutritional value of dairy foods and their contribution to a healthy diet.
The Dairy Council, though its instructors, visits schools throughout the state and has taught tens of millions of California students since the 1930s, it says.
