Huntington Beach police suspect the man forced open the door at Main Street Eyewear & Boutique at 200 Main Street about 10 p.m. on March 3.

“The suspect returned approximately an hour later and stole more merchandise,” police wrote.

Both times the man left the store, he got into a cab to depart, according to police.

Detectives began investigating, starting with the cab company, and identified the man as an Illinois resident working temporarily in California, police said.

Huntington Beach police did not identify the man pending further investigation but said he’ll soon be extradited to California to face burglary charges.

Detectives have not been able to recover any of the stolen merchandise and are continuing to investigate.
