Golf and surf event benefits good cause

The 12th annual PADRE Turf and Surf Golf Tournament, which benefits the Pediatric-Adolescent Diabetes Research and Education (PADRE) Foundation, will be held Friday at Meadowlark Golf Club in Huntington Beach and at the Huntington Beach Pier to watch the Vans U.S. Open of Surfing.

The Turf phase of the event starts with an 8:30 a.m. putting contest, followed by breakfast, a 9 a.m. shotgun start in a four-person scramble, and lunch. Golfers will also receive free-range balls and two raffle tickets. The cost is $100 per player, $400 per foursome or $600 per foursome and hole sponsor.

The Surf segment includes taking in the action at the U.S. Open of Surfing at Duke’s restaurant on the Huntington Beach Pier. A no-host bar and food will be available. Proceeds from the event go toward PADRE and the nonprofit’s Type 1 diabetes education and support programs for children and youth.
