Cavs slammed for ‘domestic violence’ video, arm sling giveaway
It's shaping up to be a tough week for whoever is running the Cleveland Cavaliers' marketing and promotions. The Cavs broadcast an in-game video Wednesday that some fans say condones domestic violence, and the team scrapped an "arm sling" giveaway that was intended to show solidarity with injured star Kevin Love.
The video shows a man who's a Cavaliers fan doing some "Dirty Dancin'" with a female date. But just before she makes the big leap to her Patrick Swayze, she takes off her apron (Apron? Really? What year is it in Cleveland?) and reveals a Chicago Bulls T-shirt. The man tosses her to the floor and flash-cut to her wearing a Cavs "All In" T-shirt and holding an ice pack to her head.
Oddly enough, this did not go over well.
Some people defended the skit.
The arm sling promotion was a more benign misstep, designed to pay homage to Love, whose dislocated his shoulder during Cleveland's first-round series against the Boston Celtics and had season-ending surgery. (But imagine if the Bulls had given away knee braces to show allegiance to Derrick Rose).
Stick to the T-shirt cannon. You can never go wrong with the T-shirt cannon.
