Track: Carson’s Brandon Hasson runs 10.84 seconds in 100 meters at City prelims

Junior Brando Hasson of Carson stamped himself as the favorite to win the City Section 100 meters title next week after leading qualifiers at Thursday’s City prelims with a 10.84 clocking at Birmingham High. He also qualified first in the 200 in 22.05.

Hasson was part of a strong Carson contingent that combined to win its heat in the 400-meter relay in 42.00. Another impressive Carson athlete is hurdler Justin Collins, who qualified first in the 110 highs at 14.91. The 300 hurdles are his speciality. He won in 39.00.

Hasson played football in the fall at Culver City. Collins was Carson’s quarterback until a broken collarbone in a nonleague game against Mater Dei ended his season.

Canoga Park sophomore Deonte Perry, a transfer from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, won his 100 heat in 11.03.

San Pedro’s Steve Correa won his heat of the 1,600 in 4:24.08 and the 3,200 in 9:39.83. Dorsey’s Daniel Lawson cruised to a 49.17 clocking in the 400.

Palisades distance standout Marissa Williams dominated the 1,600, winning her heat in 5:03.35. She also won her 800 heat in 2:18.05 and the 3,200 in 10:52.35. Crenshaw’s Kayla Williams had the fastest 100 qualifying time in 12.49 seconds.
