Baseball notes: Rafael Furcal returns after missing more than a year

Former Dodger Rafael Furcal, sidelined for more than a year by injuries, was in the Miami Marlins lineup at second base Friday night. Furcal missed all of 2013 because of an elbow injury and sat out the first 2 1/2 months of this season with hamstring and groin injuries. Manager Mike Redmond said he plans to play Furcal every day.

Three-time All-Star reliever Heath Bell, released by Tampa Bay on May 4, signed a minor league contract with the Yankees.

St. Louis ace Adam Wainwright could miss his next start because of tendinitis in his right elbow but says the injury isn’t serious.

The Cubs put outfielder Emilio Bonifacio on the disabled list because of rib-cage inflammation and activated outfielder Ryan Sweeney.
