Nationals starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg will go on the disabled list after injuring himself during his Fourth of July start against the Giants.

The Washington Nationals placed pitcher Stephen Strasburg back on the 15-day disabled list Sunday, this time because of a strained left oblique.

Strasburg left his start Saturday after 3 2/3 scoreless innings because of tightness in his left side.


Seattle Mariners Manager Lloyd McClendon will miss his team’s upcoming three-game series against the Detroit Tigers to attend a funeral for his sister. Bench coach Trent Jewett will assume the managerial duties. . . . Pittsburgh Pirates left fielder Starling Marte left Sunday’s game because of discomfort in his left side while batting in the fourth inning. . . . The Miami Marlins optioned right-hander Jarred Cosart to triple-A New Orleans. . . .
