Reward for Houston Astros pitcher Michael Feliz’s yeoman effort is reassignment to Fresno

Only hours after throwing 107 pitches in relief, right-hander Michael Feliz was sent to the minors by the Houston Astros.
The Astros made the move before Thursday’s 8-5 loss to the New York Yankees.
Feliz, optioned to triple-A Fresno, took over Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium after starter Collin McHugh got only one out in a 16-6 loss. Feliz gave up six runs in 4 1/3 innings and made more pitches than any Astros reliever since 1989, when Bob Forsch made 114.
When Feliz was pulled, Manager A.J. Hinch patted the rookie on the chest to thank him for the effort on a long, chilly night.
Jones sits out
Baltimore Orioles center fielder Adam Jones was not in the starting lineup Thursday night against the Minnesota Twins because of soreness in his rib cage.
Manager Buck Showalter said that Jones felt pain after his final at-bat Wednesday night in a 4-2 win over the Twins.
Though Jones wanted to play, according to Showalter, the manager said, “I just thought it would be smart to give him a day.”
