Tennessee erases 21-point deficit and stuns No. 20 Kentucky, 84-77

Kevin Punter Jr. scored 27 points, Armani Moore had 18 points and 13 rebounds, ands Tennessee erased a 21-point deficit to upset No. 20 Kentucky, 84-77, Tuesday night in Knoxville, Tenn.

Tennessee’s comeback was stunning for a team that had lost its last two games despite leading by at least 14 points in the second half of each. The Volunteers (11-11, 4-5 Southeastern Conference) trailed 34-13 with less than six minutes left in the first half.

It marked the second straight defeat for Kentucky (16-6, 6-3). The Wildcats fell 90-84 in overtime Saturday at No. 7 Kansas, which was ranked fourth at the time.

at DePaul 77, No. 11 Providence 70: Myke Henry had 27 points and 11 rebounds, and the Blue Demons (8-14, 2-8 Big East) dominated the boards to the tune of 48-24 in a surprising win over the Friars (18-5, 6-4).

No. 14 West Virginia 81, at No. 13 Iowa State 76: Jaysean Paige scored 23 points, including a crucial three-pointer with 1:05 left, and the Mountaineers (18-4, 7-2) beat the Cyclones (16-6, 5-4) for their league-leading fourth Big 12 road win.

at No. 1 Oklahoma 95, Texas Christian 72: With Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant on hand, Buddy Hield scored 17 points as the Sooners (19-2, 7-2 Big 12) won their fourth straight. Hield, the nation’s No. 2 scorer, was nine points below his 26.0 average but made seven for 13 field-goal attempts three of eight three-point shots.

at Georgia 69, No. 25 South Carolina 56: Yante Maten scored 18 points, Kenny Gaines had 17, and the Bulldogs (12-8, 5-4 SEC) snapped a two-game skid by beating the Gamecocks (19-3, 6-3), who were denied in their attempt to reach 20 wins for the first time since 2008-09.

No. 22 Indiana 80, at Michigan 67: Yogi Ferrell had 17 points and nine assists, and the Hoosiers (19-4, 9-1 Big Ten) finished the first half with 25 straight points, a surge from which the Wolverines (17-6, 7-3) never recovered.

Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski was not with the Blue Devils for Tuesday night’s game at Georgia Tech because of illness. Associate head coach Jeff Capel ran the team at Atlanta. Krzyzewski, the winningest men’s coach in Division I basketball history with 1,033 victories, missed his first Duke game since the 1994-95 season.
