No. 4 Maryland holds off Nebraska, 70-65

Freshman Diamond Stone had 16 points, 10 rebounds and a season-high eight blocks, and No. 4 Maryland held off Nebraska, 70-65, on Wednesday night at Lincoln, Neb.

Stone dunked off an assist by Melo Trimble to give the Terrapins (20-3, 9-2 Big Ten Conference) the lead for good, 60-58, and he dunked after rebounding Jake Layman’s missed free throw to make it 66-61 with two minutes to play.

The Cornhuskers (12-11, 4-6) were within three points when Trimble put the game away with two free throws with 8.2 seconds left. Trimble finished with 20 points.

Andrew White III had 19 points and nine rebounds for Nebraska.

at No. 3 Villanova 83, Creighton 58: Kris Jenkins scored 22 points to lead the Wildcats (19-3, 9-1 Big East Conference), who made 16 of 29 (55%) three-point shots.

Playing just outside his native Philadelphia, Maurice Watson Jr. led Creighton (14-9, 5-5) with 16 points and five assists. The Bluejays have lost three consecutive games for the first time this season.

at No. 5 Iowa 73, Penn State 49: Jarrod Uthoff scored 14 points and Adam Woodbury had a career-high 15 rebounds for the Hawkeyes (18-4, 9-1 Big Ten), who won their 15th consecutive home game.

Iowa shot 46% from the field and held the Nittany Lions (11-12, 2-8), who made only one of 20 three-point shots, to 30% shooting.

Brandon Taylor had 15 points and 11 rebounds for Penn State.

at No. 6 Xavier 90, St. John’s 83: Trevon Bluiett had 15 points and 13 rebounds, and the Musketeers (20-2, 8-2 Big East) reached 20 victories faster than any team in school history.

Felix Balamou had a career-high 20 points for the Red Storm (7-16, 0-10), which lost its 13th game in a row to tie Delaware for the longest active losing streak in Division I.

at No. 7 Kansas 77, Kansas State 59: Perry Ellis scored 19 points and the Jayhawks (18-4, 6-3 Big 12 Conference) took advantage of 23 turnovers to win at Allen Fieldhouse for the 36th consecutive time.

Stephen Hurt had 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Wildcats (13-9, 2-7).

at No. 9 Virginia 61, Boston College 47: Malcolm Brogdon scored 27 points to help the Cavaliers (18-4, 7-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) stretch their winning streak to five games.

Anthony Gill had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Cavaliers, who won at home for the 16th consecutive time and for the 31st time in their last 32 home games against ACC opponents.

Sammy Barnes-Thompkins had 14 points for the Eagles (7-15, 0-9).

at No. 17 Miami 79, Notre Dame 70: Freshman Anthony Lawrence Jr. scored a career-high 18 points and the Hurricanes

(17-4, 6-3 ACC) extended their home winning streak to nine games.

Bonzie Colson scored 17 points for the Fighting Irish (15-7, 6-4).

at No. 21 Wichita State 76, Southern Illinois 55: Fred VanVleet had 12 points and 11 assists, and the Shockers (17-5, 11-0 Missouri Valley Conference) won their 12th game in a row.

Anthony Beane had 20 points, including 15 in the first half, for the Salukis (18-6, 7-4). Bola Olaniyan had seven points and 16 rebounds.
