Don Jackson ran for two touchdowns and Nevada’s defense allowed a lone field goal in the second half Friday night as the Wolf Pack beat Washington State, 24-13.

Cody Fajardo, who played at Anaheim Servite High, passed for 110 yards and ran for another 100 to join Colin Kaepernick as one of only three players in school history to surpass 10,000 career total offense yards for Nevada (2-0).

Connor Halliday passed for 389 yards but only one touchdown and was intercepted twice for the Cougars (0-2).

Nevada never trailed after freshman Kendall Jackson returned an interception 45 yards to set up Jackson’s one-yard score late in the first quarter. Jackson also ran two yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter and finished with 69 yards rushing.

Conner leads Pitt past Boston College

James Conner ran for 213 yards and a touchdown to lead Pittsburgh to a 30-20 victory over Boston College on Friday night in the first Atlantic Coast Conference matchup between the former Big East foes.

Chad Voytik completed 10 of 21 passes for 111 yards, connecting with Tyler Boyd for two touchdowns. A week after rushing for 409 yards in a 62-0 victory over Delaware, the Panthers (2-0, 1-0) ran for 305 against the Eagles (1-1, 0-1) — and Conner was again the star.

The 250-pound sophomore, who ran for 153 yards and four touchdowns against the Blue Hens last week, broke free for a nine-yard touchdown run against the Eagles that made it 27-7 in the third quarter and all-but put the game away.

Tyler Murphy completed 10 of 28 passes for 134 yards for Boston College, with a touchdown and two passes intercepted. The transfer quarterback also ran 15 times for 92 yards and a two-yard touchdown run that, with the missed two-point conversion, made it 30-20 with 43 seconds left.

Boston College recovered the onside kick, but Murphy’s pass was intercepted in the end zone with 6 seconds left.

After running for 338 yards against Massachusetts in their first game since the graduation of Heisman Trophy finalist Andre Williams, the Eagles gained 142 on Friday. The top Boston College running back, Myles Willis, gained 14 yards in seven carries.

Etc.

UCF coach George O’Leary says that sophomore Justin Holman has been named the starting quarterback for the Knights game next week at Missouri.

O’Leary announced the decision Friday.

Holman came on in relief of redshirt freshman Pete DiNovo in UCF’s 26-24 loss to Penn State in Ireland last week. The second of Holman’s two rushing touchdowns put the Knights ahead late, but Penn State was able to engineer a last-second, game-winning field goal.

The Knights have a bye this week.

Holman originally appeared to be the front runner to succeed Blake Bortles, but consistency issues cost him the job in a preseason battle with DiNovo.
