Record vs. United (2010): 2-0.

Update: This is the first of three consecutive road matches for the Galaxy, which will be without midfielder Chris Birchall, who is serving a one-game suspension for a red card received in last week’s 1-0 victory over the Philadelphia Union. Birchall had been playing in David Beckham’s right midfield slot with Beckham in the center. The switch, Coach Bruce Arena said, was all about getting Beckham “more involved with the team [and] having a little more responsibility.” Beckham could revert to his former position Saturday or Arena could try someone else on the right. D.C. United is coming off a penalty kick victory over Philadelphia in U.S. Open Cup play after the teams tied, 2-2, Wednesday night. It lost, 4-1, on the road to the defending MLS champion Colorado Rapids on Sunday. Forward Charlie Davies, who scored in each of D.C. United’s first two matches, missed the Colorado game because of a right groin strain and is listed as questionable. All four of the Galaxy’s goals this season have been scored by South Americans.
