Update: With defender Leonardo out for the season with torn knee ligaments, and defender Gregg Berhalter still recovering from a left knee injury that has sidelined him all year, Galaxy Coach Bruce Arena will begin putting together a new-look back line. Chances are, A.J. DeLaGarza or Sean Franklin will team up with Omar Gonzalez in the center of the defense. But Arena has said that former UCLA defender Sean Alvarado offers “another possibility.” Arena also has not ruled out acquiring a new defender should Berhalter’s recovery take longer than expected. Meanwhile, Landon Donovan appears to have recovered from the right knee injury that kept him out of the past three games and is likely to play. David Beckham returns from a one-game suspension. The expansion Timbers are coming off back-to-back 4-2 and 3-2 victories over Chicago and Dallas, respectively. “They have a good, solid team, but until you see them on the field against your team your really can’t ever have a great handle on them,” Arena said.
