Update: The game features Seattle, third in the West and fighting to reach first place, against Chivas, sixth in the West and fighting to stay in the playoff hunt. The Sounders are coming off a 2-1 win at Kansas City that was Coach Sigi Schmid’s league-best 150th MLS victory. “It just means that I’ve coached a lot of good players,” the former Galaxy coach said. The Sounders are a late-striking team and lead the MLS with 13 goals scored in the final quarter-hour. Chivas USA is playing its third game on a five-game road swing and is coming off a 3-2 victory at New England, where team captain Alejandro Moreno scored twice. It was goalkeeper Dan Kennedy who kept Chivas in the match, however, with some crucial saves. “It’s so important to have a goalkeeper who will keep you in games while you sort things out, and he’s done that many times this year,” said Chivas Coach Robin Fraser. If he plays any part Saturday, midfielder Francisco Mendoza will set a club appearance record with his 124th match for Chivas. He currently shares the record with Jonathan Bornstein.
