Rajon Rondo’s ref bump costs him one-game suspension

Share

Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo has been suspended for one game for sticking out his chest to bump ref Marc Davis during Boston’s 83-74 loss to Atlanta in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series.

The suspension means Rondo will not be able to play Tuesday night in Atlanta.

Rondo was unhappy with a foul called by Davis. He was immediately ejected from the game.

“I didn’t intentionally chest-bump him, but that’s what it appears to be,” Rondo said Sunday after the game.

“Obviously I was upset about the call and I said some words to Marc. I deserved the first tech,” Rondo said. “As I was walking, I thought he stopped. My momentum carried me into him. I even think I tripped on his foot.”

The Celtics are already without shooting guard Ray Allen, who has a sore right ankle. Avery Bradley will probably start in Rondo’s place at point guard.
