Eagles Coach Andy Reid’s eldest son, Garrett Reid, has been found dead in his room at the team’s training camp at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.

Reid’s son, who had a history of personal problems including drug addiction, had been working as a member of the team’s training and conditioning staff.

Lehigh University police said a 911 call was made at 7:20 a.m., and that when police found him, there were no unusual or suspicious circumstances at the dormitory. No cause of death has been given.

The Eagles went through their morning workout at the request of Reid, who did not attend the session. Players gathered for a team prayer before the practice.

“This news is heartbreaking for everyone in the Eagles family,” said Jeffrey Lurie, the Eagles’ chairman and chief executive.

Garrett Reid’s legal problems began in 2007 when he was involved in a car accident and was found to be under the influence of heroin.

Added Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman: “This is a tough morning for all of us in the Eagles family. Garrett grew up with this team and this makes this news even harder for us to process.”
