Novak Djokovic-Rafael Nadal final at French Open suspended

The French Open men’s championship match between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal has been suspended in the fourth set because of rain. It’s the first time in 39 years that the tournament won’t end on a Sunday.

Nadal, who is seeking a record seventh French Open title, was leading, 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 1-2, after three hours of play when a second rain delay forced the players off the clay court at Roland Garros.

After an hour delay, officials said the match would resume on Monday at 1 p.m. local time.

The weather forecast for Paris predicts intermittent rain on Monday.

The French Open was last delayed in 1973, when Ilie Nastase defeated Nikki Pilic in a match that ended on Tuesday.

Djokovic is trying to become the first man in 43 years to win four consecutive Grand Slam titles.
