Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck: Who would be your starter in 2012?

Share

Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck? The Indianapolis Colts have made their choice for their starting quarterback in 2012 -- well, at least we’re all assuming they intend to draft Luck with the No. 1 overall pick in April.

We do know for sure they have chosen to proceed without Manning. Owner Jim Irsay announced Wednesday, in a joint news conference with Manning, that the Colts were parting ways with the quarterback that started every meaningful game for them for 13 straight years until multiple neck surgeries prevented him from playing at all in 2011.

If you were faced with the same decision between the two quarterbacks for the 2012, who would you choose? Both quarterbacks could single-handedly bring a team tremendous success, possibly right away. But there is an element of the unknown connected with both of them as well.

Pick Manning and you’ll get one of the best quarterbacks of all time. A Super Bowl champion and four-time league MVP, he is third all-time in both passing yards and passing touchdowns. But his health is still a big question mark. And even if his arm strength returns to 100%, how much longer will he be able to play at a high level?

Pick Luck and you’ll get one of the most highly touted college players ever to enter the draft. The Stanford quarterback was second in the Heisman Trophy voting in each of the last two years and finished with 9,430 yards, 82 touchdowns and 22 interceptions in three years as a starter. But as history has shown, college success doesn’t always translate to the pro level.

Vote in the poll, then leave a comment explaining why you voted the way you did.
