Solomon Hill pushes Arizona to 29-23 halftime lead over UCLA

Arizona’s Solomon Hill appeared to be the only one who showed up ready to play Thursday, as he helped the Wildcats carve out a 29-23 halftime over UCLA lead in the quarterfinals of the Pacific Life Pac-12 tournament at Staples Center.

While others stumbled through the half, Hill, who played at Los Angeles Fairfax High School, was sharp. He had 14 points in the half. He made five of seven shots and was three for four on three-pointers.

Hill’s three-pointer gave the Wildcats a 4-2 lead. Arizona led the remainder of the half.

The Bruins got off to a cumbersome start, just as they did against USC Wednesday. UCLA scored seven points through the first 12 minutes of the first half.

The Bruins only consistency was in giving the ball back to Arizona. UCLA officially had 10 turnovers in the half, but mishandled the ball on at least four other possessions, helping the Wildcats build a 21-11 lead with seven minutes left.

Lazeric Jones and Jerime Anderson both scored six points to lead UCLA in the first half.
