Dwight Howard told the Orlando Magic late Wednesday night that he will stay with the team and not opt out of his contract, according to multiple reports.

The New Jersey Nets have been told that Howard will not opt out and will therefore not be available in trade, ESPN reported.

Howard still needs to sign a waiver of the early-termination option in his contract before the noon PDT trade deadline today. By signing the waiver, Howard would remain with the Magic through the 2012-2013 season.

“The Magic have no comment on this situation,” team spokesman Joel Glass said today.

Of course, Howard has already changed his mind about opting out or not multiple times, so until he actually signs the waiver and the trade deadline passes, nothing is set in stone.
