Churchill Downs track now ‘fast’; Union Rags the favorite

Share

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- It didn’t take long, two races in fact, for the main track at Churchill Downs to be upgraded to “fast.” So, barring any rain, the Kentucky Derby will be run on an optimal surface.

After the first race, the track was upgraded from “muddy” to “sloppy” and then it was called “fast” after the second race. There were still some puddles on the outside of the track where horses rarely run.

Meanwhile, it appears that Union Rags will be the favorite in the Kentucky Derby. Betting on the race has been going on since Friday and the odds may vary slightly by race time but are more likely to be close to where they are now.

Union Rags is at 9/2 followed by Bodemeister, the morning line favorite at 4-1, is at 7-1. Undefeated Gemologist is 8-1 and Take Charge Indy and Dullahan are 10-1. Creative Cause is at 11-1 and Daddy Nose Best, Hansen and I’ll Have Another are all 13-1.

There are 20 horses in the race.
