Third baseman David Wright will be with the New York Mets for quite a while. Wright and the Mets agreed to a $138-million, eight-year contract on Friday.

Wright, 29, batted .306 with 21 homers and 93 RBIs last season as the Mets finished fourth in the NL East at 74-88.

He would have been eligible for free agency after next season, but the new deal locks him up with the team through the 2020 season. As part of the deal, the Mets picked up his $16-million option for next season and tacked on an additional seven years worth $122 million.

Wright is the Mets’ career leader in hits, RBIs, runs and walks. He is third on the team’s home run list with 204, trailing Darryl Strawberry (252) and Mike Piazza (220).

It is the richest contract in Mets history, eclipsing the $137.5-million, six-year contract signed by pitcher Johan Santana before the 2008 season.
