UCLA 45, Arizona State 43 (final)
Ka’imi Fairbairn has been automatic on field-goal attempts of less than 36 yards.
And with two seconds left in the game and UCLA trailing by a point, he stayed that way.
Fairbairn, a freshman from Honolulu, drilled a 33-yard field goal right through the uprights to give UCLA (6-2 overall, 3-2 in Pa-12 play) a victory that made the Bruins bowl eligible.
UCLA took over at its own 25-yard line with 1 minute 33 seconds on the clock and drove 60 yards in 10 plays to set up Fairbairn, who is 10 for 10 on kicks from 35 yards and in but 0 for 5 from farther away.

UCLA 21, Arizona State 17 (halftime)
Arizona State seems determined to keep UCLA’s season moving forward.
It wasn’t enough that third-down penalties kept Bruins’ drives alive, or that a holding call cost the Sun Devils a touchdown. Arizona State made sure UCLA could have a 21-17 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.
A bad decision on top of a bad decision gave the Bruins the lead.

The day started bad for the Bruins.

It was the second consecutive game that a Manfro made a gaffe on a punt return led to a touchdown.

The Sun Devils lost a touchdown and settled for a field goal.

Pregame
Running back Johnathan Franklin is on the verge of making history at UCLA.
With a big performance today against Arizona State, Franklin can pass Gaston Green as UCLA’s all-time leading rusher. He needs 185 yards to overtake Green’s career record of 3,731 yards.
Franklin has tried to deflect the individual spotlight.
“It’s all about points,” Franklin said. “It’s all driving the ball down the field, breaking tackles, getting first downs, getting the ball in the end zone. No matter how many yards I get, if we’re not scoring points, it doesn’t matter.”
Franklin also has an outside shot at UCLA’s single-season record. Karim-Abdul Jabbar had 1,571 yards in 1995. Franklin has gained 878 yards in seven games this season. He averages 125 yards a game and has five regular-season games, plus a possible bowl game, to get the 694 yards to pass Jabbar.
“Every day I pray that I can do my best,” Franklin said. “If I can break records, win championships, things that I can be remembered for and be an example to others, it would truly be a blessing.”
