UCLA running back Malcolm Jones, the Gatorade player of the year as a senior at Westlake Village Oaks Christian, has decided to transfer, according to a person in the program who was not authorized to speak publicly.
Jones, a junior, never realized his potential at UCLA. He had three carries for 10 yards in a 49-24 victory over Rice in the season opener. He had only 80 carries for 315 yards in two previous seasons.
UCLA is deep in the backfield, starting with Johnathan Franklin. Jordon James and Damien Thigpen are behind him on the depth chart.
Jones has a redshirt year left, so he will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
