Three-way tie for lead in opening round of LPGA’s first major
RANCHO MIRAGE -- Jodi Ewart Shadoff, a newlywed from Britain, joined Na Yeon Choi and Suzann Pettersen as the leaders after the first round of the Kraft Nabisco Championship, the LPGA Tour’s first major tournament at Mission Hills Country Club.
Ewart Shadoff, who was married in January, played in the afternoon and joined Choi and Pettersen atop the leaderboard late in the day as she played in the final group.
The tri-leaders shot four-under-par 68 and led Amy Yang and Anna Nordqvist by a single shot.
Former USC star Lizette Salas and former UCLA star Jane Park were in a group of 11 tied for sixth, two shots behind the leaders.
Michelle Wie, who has missed the cut three times this year, and 15-year-old amateur Lydia Ko of New Zealand were among a group at even-par 70, along with Yani Tseng, who was ranked No. 1 in the world until last month.
Stacy Lewis, the American who took over No. 1, shot a 73 and is tied for 44th after the first round.
