Nick Punto sparks Dodgers’ 7-6 win over Cubs

AT THE PLATE: Utility man Nick Punto drove in the Dodgers’ first two runs with a first-inning single to center field. Dee Gordon, who had an on-base percentage of only .280 last season, drew two walks. So did Tony Gwynn Jr., who is trying to make the team as a non-roster player.

ON THE MOUND: Chad Billingsley gave up two runs and five hits in two innings. But with Billingsley pitching for the first time since a partially torn elbow ligament ended his 2012 season, the Dodgers were encouraged that his fastball averaged 91-92 mph and touched 93 mph. Chris Capuano had a rough outing, serving up two home runs. Capuano gave up four runs and three hits in two innings.

EXTRA BASES: Juan Uribe played the first three innings at first base, something he had never done in his 12 previous major league seasons. With Uribe appearing destined for a backup role — provided he makes the team — the Dodgers want him to play more positions. “I’ve been working on it,” Uribe said. “I don’t feel that bad. What’s important right now is to program my mind.”
