Live discussion: Kings, Ducks seem playoff bound

Join us at noon today for a live video chat with hockey Hall of Famer Helene Elliott and Kings writer Lisa Dillman as they discuss the Kings, Ducks and the NHL. You will be able to submit questions to Elliott and Dillman during the chat.

Both teams are positioned for a playoff run, with the Ducks currently in second place in the Western Conference and the Kings, winners of five in a row, in fifth place.

As Dillman wrote about the Kings on Wednesday after their 2-1 win over Detroit,

“If one of their best games of the season wasn’t enough to beat the Detroit Red Wings about 2 1/2 weeks ago, how about two mediocre periods and an outstanding 10 minutes by the Kings?

“Perhaps this 60-minutes stuff is overrated.

“The Kings stirred to life about midway through the third period, pulled even on a five-on-three power-play goal by Jeff Carter and won it with a highlight-reel play from a wide-open Anze Kopitar with 4:48 remaining to beat Detroit, 2-1, on Wednesday night at Staples Center.

“This was the Kings’ fifth straight win and they’ve taken seven of their last eight, a run starting, coincidentally, after that devastating loss at Detroit.

“We thought we deserved better in Detroit, so maybe it all comes down to the hockey god, right?” Kings Coach Darryl Sutter said. “We played really well in the third and we struggled in the first. But quite honest, we’re a good hockey team too. Everybody’s searching for the perfect game.”
