Dinosaurs could go extinct -- again.

Toronto Raptors new CEO Tim Leiweke recently suggested that the organization may consider changing its name.

“We’re definitely going to take a look at it,” Leiweke told the National Post. “It doesn’t mean we’re committed to it. It means it’s a good conversation. I saw those generic uniforms today in the paper. … That won’t be the uniform, by the way. I can assure you of that. I think we need to have this conversation.”

Toronto’s expansion team chose its name in 1994, opting for “Raptors” because of the popularity of the movie “Jurassic Park.”

Nearly two decades later, apparently Leiweke thinks that dinosaurs have seen their heyday. Maybe he’ll opt for the Toronto Huskies, the name of an early pro basketball franchise? Or go with a more-contemporary movie franchise: Toronto Avatars? Avengers? Hangovers?

Leiweke isn’t the only franchise executive to have a change of heart about his team’s name. In the past few months, the New Orleans Hornets have become the Pelicans and the Charlotte Bobcats have announced that they will become the Hornets.

So what should Toronto re-name its team? Vote in our poll and let us know.
