Derrick Rose reportedly cleared to play, but not ready yet

Derrick Rose reportedly is medically cleared to return to the court after having surgery in May to repair the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee -- but don’t expect to see him on the hardwood quite yet.

According to an ESPN report quoting a team source, Rose’s doctor has cleared him to play, but Rose apparently told the Bulls that he won’t make an official comeback until he feels comfortable dunking off his left foot in game-type conditions.

The Bulls are reportedly supporting his decision and are hoping for a mid-March return, which would put him on the court 10 months after his surgery.

His progress report comes after Rose suggested on Feb. 13, the last time that he spoke publicly, that there’s a chance that he won’t retun this season.

“I’m feeling good, but like I said, if it’s where it’s taking me a long time and I’m still not feeling right, I don’t mind missing this year,” he said. “I would love to [return]. I would love to. That’s why I approached my rehab and my workout so hard. I’m trying to get back on the court as quickly as possible, but if I have anything lingering on, it’s no point.”

Rose, a three-time All-Star and 2011 most valuable player, has since participated in five-on-five drills and began sitting with the team during games on Sunday.
