Sharks looking to steal a road win against Kings tonight
Twelve wins in a row at Staples Center make the Kings a decent bet in Thursday night’s Western Conference semifinal game against the San Jose Sharks. But with the series tied at two games each, the visitors are taking a reverse sort of inspiration from their nightmare, last-second loss in Game 2 here last week.
The Kings used the power play to score twice in the final two minutes of a 4-3 victory that night.
“We played good enough to win in this building,” forward Logan Couture said after Thursday’s morning skate. “Hopefully we’ll build off that.”
Almost to a man, the Kings have talked about wanting to start fast and ignite the home crowd. The Sharks, who dominated the first period of their 2-1 victory in Game 4 at San Jose, know what to expect.
“We’re going to have to be on our toes and try to play those minutes in their end,” Coach Todd McLellan said.
McLellan was asked if his team took confidence from the Kings switching players around in their top lines.
“It’s probably best to answer that later on in the series,” he said. “We looked at our lineup after two games and wondered if we needed to move some people around.”
