Henrik Stenson rebounds at Tour Championship

Henrik Stenson might try losing his cool more often.

The Swedish veteran holds a one-stroke lead teeing off Friday morning for the second round of the Tour Championship in Atlanta. He has been both hot and hot-tempered down the home stretch of the golf season.

After strong finishes at two recent majors and a World Golf Championship, Stenson earned a FedEx Cup playoff victory at the Deutsche Bank Championship. But things did not go so well at the BMW Championship earlier this week, when he was battling a sore wrist.

Stenson smashed his driver on the final hole and then tore up a locker inside the Conway Farms clubhouse.

“I’ll tell you, I mean, I’ve always been a bit of a hothead,” he said. “It kind of builds up and eventually it goes over the limit.”

Shooting a 6-under 64 during Thursday’s first round in Atlanta seemed to brighten his mood.

“I just needed to realize the world is a good place again,” he said.

Friday begins with Adam Scott, Billy Horschel and Steve Stricker within two strokes of the lead. Tiger Woods stands near the bottom of the elite 30-man field at 3-over.

The Tour Championship will decide who wins the season-long FedEx Cup and collects a $10-million bonus.

Stenson began his big run with four straight tournaments in the top 3 -- including two majors and a World Golf Championship -- and then won the Deutsche Bank Championship. But he was coming off a mediocre performance in the BMW Championship
