Mets beat Angels, 7-6, on home run in 13th inning

KEY MOMENT: The Angels were one out from defeat, and three runs down, when Raul Ibanez stepped to the plate in the ninth inning. Ibanez delivered a three-run home run — his second home run of the season, and the 2,000th hit of his career — to force the game into extra innings. But Mets catcher Anthony Recker had the game-winning hit, a 13th-inning home run off the last man in the Angels’ bullpen, Matt Shoemaker.

AT THE PLATE: Collin Cowgill and Chris Iannetta each hit his first home run of the season. Albert Pujols, who had started the season 0 for 11 with runners in scoring position, singled home the Angels’ first run.

ON THE MOUND: Jered Weaver, mixing fastballs in the mid-80-mph range with other pitches that dropped below 70 mph, carried a one-hitter and a 3-1 lead into the seventh inning. He got the first two outs, with a walk in between, then gave up back-to-back singles. He left with a 3-2 lead, but Fernando Salas gave up a two-run single that would have pinned Weaver with the loss if not for Ibanez’s home run. Relievers Dane De La Rosa and Kevin Jepsen combined to give up two runs, two hits, two walks and a hit batter in the ninth inning.

ON THE LINEUP: The Angels have used three cleanup batters in each of the three games since Josh Hamilton went on the disabled list — David Freese, Ibanez and Howie Kendrick.

CY, YOUNG: Bartolo Colon, 40, who won the 2005 AL Cy Young Award as an Angel, faces his old team Sunday. Trout, 22, has seven hits in 14 at-bats against Colon, including two home runs.

LIGHT ‘EM UP: The postgame fireworks show accidentally started after the second inning. The game was delayed for a few moments while the fireworks were shut off.
