Lindsey Vonn says she wants to race at next Winter Olympics

Sitting on a couch with her right knee bandaged and braced, Lindsey Vonn told a television interviewer she plans to return from knee surgery and ski another four years until the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics.

“I have a lot that I have to accomplish still,” she said on the “Today” show. “I’m going to take my time. I felt a little bit rushed last time with trying to be back and ready for Sochi. I’m going to be racing next year, and the year after that, and the year after that.”

Vonn initially hurt her knee last year and, after surgery, attempted a comeback in the fall. But subsequent injuries landed her back on the operating table, where doctors reconstructed her ACL and repaired damage to the meniscus.

Over the next few weeks, she will serve as an Olympic correspondent for “Today” and NBC Sports but said missing taking part in the Games will be difficult.

“I always love watching the other athletes compete like in figure skating, luge and all that stuff, but it’s going to be really hard to watch the Alpine events,” she told Matt Lauer.
