Bynum outrebounds San Antonio in first half, Lakers lead, 48-43

The Lakers uncorked their finest first half of the season and lead the San Antonio Spurs, 48-43, at AT&T Center.

Andrew Bynum has 19 rebounds and San Antonio has 18 in the first half. Bynum also has 10 points. Pau Gasol and Matt Barnes each have 11 points to lead the Lakers.

Kobe Bryant is sitting out a third consecutive game because of a sore left shin. Earlier in the day, he was instructed by Lakers trainer Gary Vitti to stop wearing a walking boot and see how his shin reacted to being unrestrained.

Bryant is still day-to-day and the Lakers’ next game is Friday against Denver at Staples Center.

The Lakers pounded the Spurs on the boards in the first half, taking a staggering 37 rebounds.

The Lakers led after the first quarter, 24-21. Bynum had six points and 11 rebounds at the time.
