Steve Nash spoofs ‘The Shawshank Redemption’

Share

Steve Nash entices the Lakers because he’s a man of many talents. He can pass. He can shoot. He makes his teammates better. He makes playing basketball more fun.

Nash also has enticed the Laker fan base because he’s a man of many impersonations. He mimicked Christian Bale’s acting in the recent Batman trilogy. He perfectly imitated Marlon Brando’s Vito Corleone character in “The Godfather.” He reenacted a “Star Wars” light-saber battle with former Suns teammate Jared Dudley. And in the latest movie spoof, Nash repeats Morgan Freeman’s soliloquy in “The Shawshank Redemption.”

The first night’s the toughest, no doubt about it,” Nash said while stuck in a dog cage. “They march you in naked as the day you were born.”

Just when it appeared Nash would just meditate and lament spending time behind bars (or in a cage), he brags in a Southern twang on how he escaped from “Shawshank prison.” He then launches into an infomercial for “The Nash-Mate,” a handy device that helped him get out of jail. The product also apparently helped him buff his nails, polish his teeth and design a tattoo on his back depicting the NBA’s Larry O’Brien championship trophy.

The product has some risks, though.

“Product may not work as advertised,” read the disclaimer. “This product has been known to cause erectile dysfunction in some inmates. Not to be taken internally.”

Fortunately for Laker fans, the actual skils Nash brings on the court won’t yield as many risks.
