Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton might sit out the rest of the season after suffering a groin strain Saturday, the club announced Sunday.
Stanton leads the Marlins with 25 home runs and 70 runs batted in. He is batting .244.
The Marlins are discussing whether to reach out to Alex Rodriguez, said Michael Hill, the team’s president of baseball operations.
Rodriguez, 41, was unconditionally released Saturday by the New York Yankees.
Red Sox make moves
The Boston Red Sox will put knuckleballer Steven Wright on the 15-day disabled list and first baseman Hanley Ramirez on the bereavement list, Manager John Farrell said.
Wright (13-5, 3.01 ERA) jammed his right shoulder while diving back to second base Aug. 5 at Dodger Stadium.
There were no details on why Ramirez will be away. He is batting .275 with 16 home runs and 71 RBIs.
